The first snow of 2015 fell during the afternoon of Tuesday 13th January. I popped down to Portarlington station to grab a couple of images.
Thursday 15th January 2015:
A trial was carried out with 220 to test a 201 class on a cradle under power.

Monday 26th January 2015:
The 1130 Waterford - Ballina Empty Timber was repathed to depart at 1526 on this day, this was due to DFDS operating their liner to Ballina in the 1130 path. The timber train was photographed at Portarlington.

Iarnrod Eireann operated a MKIV trial from Mallow to Tralee to Gauge test the line.

No. 1 Bogie of 220. Note the wheel skate on the middle axle. This was a trial to test a 201 Class with the cradle as previously it was barred.
The 201 class is particularly difficult to cradle on the middle axles due to weight and tight clearances on the bogies. The standard I.E. wheelskate can't carry a 201 class. The market couldn't supply a cradle that would keep the locomotive within the height gauge. This cradle was designed and built at Inchicore and incorporates some novel & clever ideas to get around these problems. For various reasons, since manufacture it was never properly proven. But today finally it got the opportunity to prove itself and passed with flying colours. Thurs 15.01.15
