Belmond Grand Hibernian

Belmond Grand Hibernian is a luxury train service in Ireland, launched on Tuesday 30th August 2016. The service will be operated by Belmond, the operator of several other luxury trains including the Venice-Simplon Orient Express with a 10 year haulage contract with Iarnrod Eireann.

Belmond had several successful seasons up to 2019, but didn't operate in 2020 at all due to the COVID19 pandemic sweeping the world. On the 24th November 2020, news has come through from reliable sources that Belmond have pulled the plug on the Grand Hibernian operation in Ireland and the train won't return to service. The carriages, extensively refurbished for this operation could see future use overseas if they were re-gauged.

It's disappointing to see the venture end, but with the tourist market in Ireland decimated due to the COVID19 pandemic and realistically no improvement in sight for 2021 it is not a surprising decision.
