Canada Trip: Vancouver 29th September to 3rd October 2019
Pictures from our visit to Vancouver from 29th September to 3rd October.
Day 1 Sunday 29th September 2019:
After alighting from the Amtrak Cascades service from Seattle at Pacific Station we got our bearings and headed to the Skytrain Station to obtain a Compass travel card.
Once in the hotel and bagged dropped off we headed down Granville Street to explore Vancouver eventually arriving at the Waterfront Station, a plaza beside the station offers fine views of the ferry terminals and railway yards. Later that evening we explored Yaletown which offers many pubs and restaurants and was surprisingly busy for a Sunday evening.
Day 2 Monday 30th September 2019:
As the weather forecast was looking like Monday would be the best day of the week, we decided to hire a speedboat from Granville Boat Rentals. They had an earlybird special with a 1000 departure time, hire for 5 hours and only pay for 4 hours.
By the time the safety and navigational instructions had been given and we had been shown the operation of the boat it was 1050 before we departed. We headed out of False Creek Harbour and around Stanley Park passing under the Lions Gate Bridge, through Vancouver Harbour dodging ferries, cargo ships and cruise ships and out under the Second Narrows Bridge. With the city behind us we turned north to Deep Cove, a small town located North West of Vancouver. After lunch here we continued up the Indian Arm to Granite Falls to view the waterfall here, 30 odd miles form Vancouver. The waterfall can only be reached by boat.
After visiting the waterfall it was time to retrace our outward journey and head back to Vancouver. With the boat safely handed back at 1600 we explored Granville Island Market before heading over to Yaletown to get an early dinner.
Day 3 Tuesday 1st October 2019:
Today we headed out to the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park which was established in 1889. We availed of the free shuttle bus from downtown Vancouver to get there and to get home we got the 236 bus to Lonesdale and the Ferry back to Vancouver.
Day 4 Wednesday 2nd October 2019:
I had an early start this morning to go off and explore the Skytrain system. I managed to cover all the routes by midday which took about four hours to complete. For the afternoon we hired bikes for a 25km cycle around Stanley Park, English Bay and False Creek.
Day 5 Thursday 3rd October 2019:
Our final day in Vancouver and it's a city I would like to visit again in the future. Once the bags were packed and we checked out of the hotel for a stroll around Downtown Vancouver visiting some spots we hadn't yet seen. After an early dinner it was time to collect the bags from the hotel and make our way to Pacific Central Station to catch Amtrak 519 to Seattle at 1745.
