Bus Eireann new 323 Limerick - Nenagh service
As part of an nationwide improvement to Public Service Obligation (PSO) routes, Bus Eireann has introduced a revised route 323 service between Limerick and Nenagh via Castleconnell, Ballina (Killaloe), Portroe and Newtown villages.
The service operates seven times a day Monday to Saturday and three times a day of Sunday's. The revised service was introduced on a chilly Sunday 3rd January with the first departure being the 0857 departure from Drummin Village in Nenagh for Limerick. The routing in Nenagh cleverly serves Tesco and Aldi on it's routing through the town, opening up these out of town shopping centres to public transport and also offering a crosstown Nenagh local service.
For the first departures, SC231 operated the 0857 Drummin Village, Nenagh to Limerick and SC270 operated the first bus from Limerick, 1100 Limerick - Drummin Village, Nenagh.
However, there has been a lack of local marketing of the new service, apart from the initial announcement, and lack of road infrastructure improvements to support this service:
* No Transport for Ireland (TfI) bus stops on the route in Nenagh or Portroe and Newtown, therefore no timetable information available on street!
* No timetable information displayed at the main bus stop in Nenagh at Bamba Square.
* No area for buses to safely lay over at Drummin Village between duties.
If service improvements like these are to succeed then the information and infrastructure need to be provided.
