RPSI: Shades of Grey Railtour
RPSI Shades of Grey railtour:
On Saturday 11th June 2022, the RPSI operated their Shades of Grey railtour from Dublin Connolly to Cork -Limerick - Athenry - Athlone - Portarlington - Connolly. The train was worked by 071 Class locomotive 088 throughout, the scheduled locomotive change at Limerick not taking place as the Limerick Pilot locomotive was barred from working over 50mph due to wheel flats. 280 passengers travelled on the tour and seven of the societies Cravens carriages were used along with BR Van GSV 3173.
The tour was originally called The Blue Thunder and was supposed to feature NIR's loco 112 which had been sent to Inchicore for the IE open day in May at the works. However it failed a maintenance examination in preparation for the tour and was declared not fit to work a passenger train. The loco remains in Connolly att he time of writing awaiting transfer back to Belfast.
