Downpatrick & County Down Railway Diesel Gala
On Saturday 7th January the Downpatrick & County Down Railway held a diesel gala in conjunction with the Irish Traction Group. The gala featured locos 146, A3r, G617 and DEMU 458.
It was a varied and interesting day with it starting off with Ballast Plough Van rides behind 146 within the station limits. The gala attendees were then taken lineside to the north curve to photograph 146 hauling its ballast train and also A3r with the carriage rake.
The gala then started properly with trips to Inch Abbey with A3r, 146, G617 and DEMU 458. The only blip of the day was when 146 failed on arrival back in Downpatrick when it wouldn't take traction after being uncoupled from the set. It was eventually nursed into the headshunt and left there for the remainder of the day. That didn't detract from what was an excellent day out with varied traction and trackside visits were well organised by the operations team at the railway.
